Day 1: Arrival in Accra, Ghana - Gateway to Africa.
Upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your local guide. Depending on your arrival time, visit the W.E.B. Dubois Center or Ghana National Museum, where you’ll dive into Ghana’s rich cultural diversity, explore ancient artifacts and exhibits that trace the country’s vibrant history, from its pre-colonial empires to the independence movement. Savor your Akwaaba dinner and participate in a cultural orientation. Spend the night at a serene beachside accommodation.
Day 2: Aburi Gardens, Cocoa Farm and Bead-Making Workshop
After breakfast, travel to the scenic hills of Aburi, where you’ll explore the stunning Aburi Botanical Gardens. Learn about indigenous plants and their traditional medicinal values. Next, visit Ghana’s first commercial cocoa farm to witness the processes of cocoa fermentation and drying. After a waterfall experience, if time permits, you’ll visit a bead-making workshop to explore the centuries-old tradition of Ghanaian bead-making, where local artisans transform recycled glass into colorful, handcrafted beads.
Day 3: African Diaspora Heritage Travel - Step into History and Join a Naming Ritual at Assin Manso Slave River
Depart Aburi and journey to Cape Coast. En route, stop at Assin Manso, where enslaved Africans took their “last bath” in a stream before being marched to the Cape Coast slave dungeons. Participate in an all-white traditional Ghanaian naming ceremony, get a local name to connect spiritually with your African roots. End the day with a sunset dinner overlooking the historic Cape Coast community.
Day 4: Explore Ghana’s Slave Forts – Black Heritage & Cultural Tour
Visit the historic St. George’s Castle in Elmina, the oldest European building in Sub-Saharan Africa, built in 1482. Stand at the poignant “Door of No Return”, where captives boarded ships to the Americas. Later, explore the Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site with a museum chronicling the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and European colonization.
Day 5: Kakum Canopy Walkway
Venture into Kakum National Park, home to lush tropical rainforest and the famous canopy walkway, suspended high above the forest floor. Accompanied by a park ranger, and if you are lucky, you’ll spot exotic birds, monkeys, and antelopes. Afterwards, visit the nearby fishing village of Anomabo, where you’ll learn traditional methods of fishing and experience the vibrant local culture.
Day 6: Beach Day - Relax, Reflect and Leisure
Unwind at a palm-lined beach, enjoying the soothing rhythm of the ocean waves. Take time to reflect on your journey and build memories with locals and your travel companions as you soak up the sunshine. Or simply enjoy your day at leisure.
