Inner-land Volta Expedition.

Let’s deep dive beyond the norm, in a 3-day city escape and wander around the Volta region of Ghana. #PricelessMoments

Day 1) [ACCRA – HO] 165km/103miles by road.
•5 pm – Accra departures.


•6 pm – En route to Ho, quick rest stop, and trek across adomi bridge for photos and soak in the evening breeze of the amazing lake. [Adomi bridge is Ghana’s longest latticed steel arch suspension bridge with a deck that spans the largest man-made Volta lake at Atimpoku.


•8 pm – Arrival in Ho, the capital city of the Volta Region of Ghana. Ho lies between Mount Adaklu and Mount Galenukui or Togo Atakora Range and is home to the Volta Regional Museum, a cathedral, a prison, traditional satellite markets, enviable culture, and the University of Health and Allied Sciences.


•8:30 pm – Dinner at Agbenorxevi chop bar & Borborbor night [Borborbor is a traditional dance performed by the Ewe people believed to have originated from Kpando.

Overnight at Sky Plus hotel.

Day 2) EXPLORE GEMI, ASOGLI YAM FEST, & MONKEY SANCTUARY
• (7 – 8 am) Breakfast.


• (8-9:30 am) – Hike Mountain Gemi, a height of about 750m above sea level and is the highest human settlement in the Volta region with about 3,000 inhabitants with mixed cultures. Amedzofe is an old Bremen mission settlement in Ghana located on the Akwapim-Togo ranges – a prehistoric volcanic mountain.

Atop mountain Gemi offers amazing views of lake Volta and the evergreen valley of the Volta Region. The natural cool weather and breeze coupled with the hospitality of the local people, puts the visitor in the position of “Oliver Twist, asking for more”. Here, visitors are well adviced to come with your snickers for the hike, given the road to the top of Mount Gemi is strenuous.


• (10am-12pm) Attend a traditional durbar[large gathering] of chiefs @Asogli State Yam Festival….”According to history, the cultivation of yam among the people of Asogli started when the yam that the hunter hid during his hunting expedition later germinated and grew bigger and fed the entire Asogli community. The Yam Festival provides an opportunity for experiencing traditional music, dance, story telling and a grand durbar to end the festival.” [Paraphrased]


• (12 -1pm) Lunch at Lord’s Garden restaurant
• (1- 4pm) Arrive, snacks and monkey tour at Tafi Atome cultural villa with sacred species of true Mona Monkeys in their natural habitat but in harmony with the local people. Tafi people have the indigenous belief that the monkeys represent their ancestors. With bananas, you may feed the monkeys under guidance and they may perch upon you if you allow.


• (4:30 -6pm) Visit Kpando Torkor for torchlit Canoe trip[Kpando Torkor is an old fishing community. They have their riparian settlement along the Volta lake which forms the western boundary of the Volta region. Kpando Torkor provides an entry point for the people of Afram Plains into the Volta Region. We do a canoe ride here on the Volta lake.


• 6 pm – Head to Hohoe, and drive through a palm wine base.
• (8-9pm) Candlelight dinner at the hotel restaurant and experience Hohoe nightlife. Overnight at Grand Hotel/or similar.

Day 3) [WLI WATERFALLS & DETOUR]
• (8-9am) Eat breakfast and see the statute of Monica Amekoafia [First Miss Ghana Beauty Pageant Winner, 1957].


• (9 am – 12 pm) Journey to Wli Waterfalls and Agumatsa forest [admire the scenery of the Agumatsa forest while crossing 9 footbridges reaching the highest cascading waterfall (80m) in West Africa Ghana.

The waterfalls symbolize the art of pouring libation and offer swimming that tradition sees as providing healing. Fruit bats clinging to the cliffs offers a stunning view. Visitors are well reminded to come with bikinis as well as drip-dry casual dresses.


• (12:30 pm) – Lunch in Hohoe Kiki’s court and farewell.
• (1pm) Accra detour.
