10 am ARRIVAL IN HO, MEET AND GREET; (Ho is the administrative capital city of the Ho municipality and the Volta region of Ghana. Ho is situated between the southern edge of mount Adaklu and Mount Galenkui or Akwapim-Togo Ranges, in close proximity.
Ho was founded in the early 18th century during the eastward migration of the Ewe people from Notsie. The main inhabitants of Ho land are known as the Asogli with Togbe Afede XIV as the current occupant of the Asogli state stool.
The people are widely known for their yam festival. Asogli Yam Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the people of Asogli in ho. It celebrates every September to commemorate the cultivation of yam that was started by a hunter who found the tuber in the forest during his hunting expedition.
10 – 10:20 AM; UHAS CAMPUS TOUR; (the University of Health and Allied Sciences is amongst the youngest Universities in Ghana, which operations started in September 2012. UHAS is located in Ho devoted to teaching, service, and research in the allied health sciences to produce medics for Ghana and the world.
10:20 – 30AM; A QUICK STOP AT EP BREMEN MISSION STATION AND EP CHURCH DELA CATHEDRAL AT HO KPODZI; (The Evangelical Presbyterian Church was founded by German missionaries on 14 November 1847 with its headquarters at Ho)
10:30 – 11AM; LUNCH AT LORD’S GARDEN RESTAURANT; (A fancy food joint with a caviar of delicacies which lies almost in the centre of Ho, adjacent to Dela Cathedral)
11 – 11:30AM; VISIT TO VOLTA REGIONAL MUSEUM AND VIEW CENTRAL PRISON; (Volta regional museum is a museum in Ho. It was established in 1973, Ghana focusing on ethnographic history. The museum formerly served as the office of the Regional House of chiefs.
Exhibits on display include but not limited to, Volta kente crafts, woodcrafts and pottery, traditional art paintings especially of the notable men from the Volta region example, Efo Kodjo Mawugbe, JJ Rawlings, Togbe Afede, Kofi Awoonor, Monica Amekoafia, Komla Dumor. Other exhibits are masks, chief’s stools, swords, and chair of state for the last German colonial governor.
Whereas Ho Central Prison is located at the heart of Bankoe near the Municipal Hospital with the Ghana Post Office in view on the same stretch. The prison was established around 1948 to cater for offenders who were convicted for various minor offences in the Volta region. The categories of inmates are convicts’ prisoners, Remand prisoners, Trial prisoners and lodgers.
11:30 – 12PM; PARKS AND GARDENS, VOLTA STAR RADIO, AND TREK THROUGH SHOPPING MALL WITH THE HO STADIUM IN VIEW; (Parks and gardens is a public park with flamboyant flora in Ho offering some botanical education.
Meanwhile, Volta Star Radio is the oldest radio station in the Volta region of Ghana owned and operated by the state broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in the Volta region of Ghana situated in Ho.
Next is Stadium Gate Shopping Mall, sometimes called ‘’Letsa Shopping Mall’’ is a small and well organized mart to shop, complementing the Ho Central and Ahoe traditional markets.
12– 12:30PM; DRIVE THROUGH HO TEACHING HOSPITAL, SEE CHIEF PALACE COURT, AND A GLANCE AT HO CENTRAL MARKET; (Ho Teaching Hospital, a referral hospital, is strategically located to provide specialised healthcare services to the people of the Volta region and beyond.
It is also patronized by clients from Benin, the federal republic of Nigeria, and the Republic of Togo. The hospital is poised and envisions itself as a medical tourist center with innovative tertiary health care and research. The hospital is popularly nicknamed ‘’Trafalgar’’.
Asogli State Palace Court is the official residence and paramount seat for the Agbogbomefia Togbe Afede XIV of the Asogli state located at Ho Bankoe, Afede Street.
